Kate McConathy, MSN, CRNP
Kate McConathy began her nursing career after graduating from The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing (CCN) in 2011 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She started her nursing career at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) Hospital first as an Orthopedic/Trauma Nurse then as an Assistant Nurse Manager. During her time at UAB, she helped to implement the Acute Care of Elders (ACE) virtual initiative, an interdisciplinary approach to care for geriatrics throughout UAB hospital. She graduated from the UAB School of Nursing with her Masters of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) degree in 2015. As an FNP, she went to work for Medical West Hospital in their Bessemer Internal Medicine Clinic. At the clinic, she provides acute care and follow up on chronic conditions.
Kate is from Bessemer and feels privileged to give back to a community that invested so much into her. She serves as a mentor to FNP students; through this, she realized her passion for teaching. In 2020 she joined CCN as a clinical instructor. Through the Bessemer clinic, she gets to make a difference in her community, and through CCN, she gets to invest in future nurses. Kate is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Nursing Science through The University of Alabama CCN and the University of Alabama Huntsville College of Nursing joint program. She hopes to bring her research back to the clinic setting to improve her patient’s lives. |
